FDRIO / FMC CONFERENCE: “FOUNDATIONS TO MASTERY” NOVEMBER 16, 2020

The Family Dispute Resolution Institute of Ontario (FDRIO) and Family Mediation Canada (FMC) are pleased to present their jointly-hosted Conference: Foundations to Mastery.  This dynamic conference will be held on November 16, 2020 and will provide a premier training opportunity for family dispute resolution professionals at all levels of development. Proposals for conference sessions are welcome from family law dispute resolution professionals: mediators, arbitrators, parenting coordinators; lawyers, mental health professionals, and financial practitioners and academics and researchers focused on family dissolution.
The Conference will provide an array of topics that will reinforce best practices, explore current and cutting edge issues, and enhance family law dispute resolutions professionals’ practices. The programming will include a variety session types, including break out, lecture style and hands on exercises and should cater to professionals at all levels of practice, ranging from those beginning their FDR careers to experts in the family dispute resolution field.

MOYA TEKLU

ADDRESSING ANTI-BLACK RACISM

Moya Teklu, B.A. (York) 2005, J.D. (Toronto) 2009, was called to the Bar of Ontario in 2010. She is a member of Legal Aid Ontario’s General Counsel’s Office and Adjunct Professor at the University of Toronto – Faculty of Law. She is responsible for developing Legal Aid Ontario’s Racialized Communities Strategy and leading the creation of the Black Legal Action Centre (BLAC). She regularly delivers training on anti-racism, unconscious bias, access to justice, and cultural competence to judges, justices of the peace, lawyers, adjudicators and regulators across the province and country. Moya has also worked as a Human Rights and Health Equity Specialist at Mount Sinai Hospital and Policy Research Lawyer at the African Canadian Legal Clinic. She has participated in proceedings before the Supreme Court of Canada, the Federal Court, the UN Committee for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, and the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario. She is a member of the Equity Advisory Group at the Law Society of Ontario.
