Working with High Conflict: Using a Solution Focused, Family Narrative and Transformative Approach

Description:  Professionals working within the court system (and/or private practice) will learn how to identify the different types of interventions needed for high conflict cases. This includes family mediation, co-parenting coaching and parenting coordination and when and what services can assist high conflict couples. The webinar will give a brief overview of the different techniques that can be applied, along with some of the pitfalls to avoid when working with high conflict cases.

Learning objectives:

  • Outline the various levels of conflict and the correspondent appropriate service
  • Present a schema for differentiating services that can be utilized with high conflict families
  • Using solution focused/family narrative and transformative approaches when working with high conflict

Dominic D’Abate, Ph.D.  is a professional social worker, parenting coordinator and accredited family mediator who is Director of the Consensus Mediation Centre in Montreal. He has worked for over forty years with children, families and coparents as a counselor, instructor and researcher in Canada, the U.S. and Europe. He has been a lecturer at McGill University and faculty member at the Argyle Institute for Human Relations in Montreal. He retains a small private practice and remains active as a supervisor, trainer and author.

Mary Damianakis, Ac F Med is a Canadian certified family mediator with over three decades of service and is a former chair of Family Mediation Canada. She has served on several boards over the years. Mary Damianakis began her mediation work with labor disputes, and later began her work with family, including international family disputes. The theme of caring for children continues to be a constant in the evolution of Mary’s work.
