The webinar will give a brief introduction to the scope and applicability of the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction. The session will explore when and how mediation can be an appropriate tool for international family disputes. The session will address how practicing family mediators can assist with prevention and briefly touch on relocation issues.
Mediation and The Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction is complicated, and recognizes a plethora of variables such as, multicultural, multi -linguistic, multi-ethnic, multi-generational, religious and family traditions. This area of mediation encompasses many different and evolving situations, and the needs of the children should be in the forefront.
Presented by Mary Damianakis
Mary Damianakis is a Canadian certified family mediator with over three decades of service and is a former president of Family Mediation Canada. She has served on several boards over the years. Mary Damianakis began her mediation work with labor disputes, and later moved her work to family, including international family disputes. The theme of caring for children continues to be a constant in the evolution of Mary’s work. With this desire at the core, she hopes to continue to meet the growing and complex needs of international family conflicts.
