New Role Play Groups starting in January

FMC Role Play Groups for Certification Preparation
Family Mediation Canada (FMC) offers two distinct Role Play Groups for members working toward certification in either Family Relations Mediation – Advanced or Comprehensive Family Mediation – Advanced.
These groups provide opportunities for members to connect, learn from one another, and practice as mediators in realistic, simulated family mediation scenarios.
Level 1: Skills Development
Level 1 is designed for participants looking to build confidence and strengthen foundational, interest-based mediation skills. Participants set personal learning goals and receive coaching from the facilitator.
- must have already completed 80 hours of basic mediation training including theory and skills
- Sessions are 2 hours long.
- Two participants will each have approximately 45 minutes to role play as mediator, with coaching support.
- Role players may pause at any time for feedback or redirection.
- The format is informal and tailored to individual learning needs.
Level 2: Certification Readiness
Level 2 is intended for participants who are nearly ready to submit their video for Advanced FMC certification. Sessions focus on evaluative feedback aligned with FMC certification standards.
- Sessions are 2 hours long.
- Participants rotate as mediator for 45 minutes each, followed by 15 minutes of structured feedback.
- No coaching is provided during the role play; feedback is given afterward.
- Time in the mediator role may count toward practicum hours, with approval from the facilitator and FMC Registrar.
Attendance of at least 85% is strongly encouraged (for both groups). A $40 registration fee is required and will be refunded to your membership fees when you achieve 85% attendance.
We are now accepting registrations for our next role play sessions!
- Level One: Mondays 10AM-12PM PST, from January 12 to March 30
- Level Two: Wednesdays 9AM-11AM PST from January 7 to March 25
One of our past participants shared that “FMC’s role play groups offered a safe space to apply my skills, try new approaches, make connections with other new mediators and grow my confidence as I progressed towards certification. The role play groups help learning come alive through practice and ongoing mentorship”.
