PRE-CERTIFICATION ROLE PLAY GROUPS
FMC offers two distinct Role Play Groups for members interested in becoming FMC certified in Family Relations Mediation – Advanced or Comprehensive Family Mediation – Advanced.
These groups aim to facilitate interaction between members, generating knowledge exchange while creating the opportunity for participants to act as mediators in simulated family mediation cases with fictitious scenarios.
Level 1 – Level 1 is intended for participants who would benefit from skill development in basic interests-based mediation skills. Participants will have the opportunity to define their goals and develop their skills. They will then receive feedback and coaching on these areas from the facilitator. Sessions are two hours in length, allowing approximately 45 minutes of coached role play each for 2 Mediators in each session. Role players need not be prepared to mediate for the full 45 minutes and are welcome to pause and seek feedback/re-direction from the Facilitator as desired. Level 1 is informal in nature, allowing for participants in the Mediator role to craft the process to best suit their learning needs. Level 1 sessions run on Saturdays via Webex, 10am-12pm Pacific Time.
The scheduling for the next round is as follows: The next Level 1 session begins April 12, 2025 and ends June 21, 2025 – six 2-hour sessions. UPDATE: Level 1 will now run every second Monday from 9:30 – 11:30 PST beginning April 14, 2025.
Level 2 – Level 2 is intended for participants who are nearly ready to submit their video for advanced certification. Level 2 participants will receive evaluative feedback based on FMC certification criteria from the Facilitator. Participants registering at this level should be prepared to role play without coaching support and will receive feedback after the role play. The intent of feedback at this level is to identify impediments to certification. Sessions are two hours in length with participants rotating in the role of Mediator for 45 minute segments, each followed by 15 minutes of feedback from the Facilitator. The time spent in the Mediator role may be applied to the practicum hours required for advanced certification in consultation with the Facilitator and FMC Registrar.
The next Level 2 session begins Wednesday, April 9, 2025 and ends Wednesday, June 25, 2025. (12 2-hour sessions).
