SUMMARY:ELDER MEDIATION – A POWERFUL APPROACH FOR REDUCING AGEISM AND ELDER ABUSE Online
DESCRIPTION:Online – Thursday\, June 1\, 2023 at 11:30am – 5:00pm ET \nJoin us for a day of learning and inspiration where you’ll discover the power of Elder Mediation and how it can enhance your work and the lives of the people you serve. \n“When my mom got scammed\, my brother became extremely protective\, but controlling.  Elder mediation helped us as a family\, to not only help my mom with her feelings of shame/grief but helped us as adult children to balance our protectiveness of her without bulldozing her autonomy.  We better understood her vulnerability and our responsibility to respect her dignity.” \nAgeism and Elder Abuse often go unnoticed or are not acknowledged until they become egregious in the lives of seniors.  Ageism is prevalent in all aspects of our society and by gaining awareness\, it empowers us to challenge and correct ageist assumptions.  This mini-conference will feature speakers focused on the unique needs of seniors and their families. You’ll hear from experts on the use of Elder Mediation in a wide variety of circumstances and gain greater understanding in how it can be applied in your own work. \nWho Should Attend? \nWhether you’re a mediator\, lawyer\, social worker\, healthcare professional\, caregiver\, funeral home professional or any type of specialist working with seniors\, you’ll find valuable insights and connections at FMC’s Mini-Conference. \nThe full agenda and bios are below. \nTopics covered at the conference include: \n\nUnderstanding how Elder Mediation addresses the unique needs of seniors and their families.\nUsing mediation to prevent ageism and elder abuse.\nLegal considerations in Elder Mediation.\nLinking Elder Mediation to your professional practice.\nImplications of recent research to the development of Elder Mediation.\n\nFour hours of training\, cost:\nMembers and partners $99 (no tax) \nNon-members $115 \nFull brochure with agenda and registration information here>>>\nSPEAKER BIOS: \nResearch Keynote: Talk To Me with Dignity\, Talk With Me: Understanding the Subtle and Complex Nature of Ageism Through Research and Lived Experiences – 12:20 – 1:05pm \nMartine Lagacé\, Ph.D. was appointed Associate Vice-President\, Research\, Promotion & Development at University of Ottawa in August 2018. SUMMARY:A FAMILY MEDIATION CANADA TRAINING© WEBINAR Moving Towards Solutions - Interests Behind Positions with Rhoda I. Dobler\, Q.C. 2:00 - 4:00 pm Eastern\, Thursday\, August 18\, 2022 (2 hours)
DESCRIPTION:There is a basic human tendency to get stuck on positions.  There are underlying motivations\, wants\, values and incentives behind these positions.  When exposed\, the span of potential resolutions dramatically increases\, but sometimes it can be difficult to get people to open up as to those interests for a variety of reasons.  We will discuss various methods that help the mediator spot issues blocking interests from being expressed; mining for interests behind positions; and inventing multiple options with mutual gains. \nMore information and registration form here >>>>>>\n
